Corporate lending decisions are among the most impact decisions in the health and stability of financial institutions: a sound credit decision supports national economic growth and job creation, while an incorrect one can expose an institution to significant financial risks. This program offers students and graduates entering the banking and financing sectors a comprehensive, simplified methodology for understanding the foundations of corporate lending and credit and how to professionally assess creditworthiness. Day One establishes a clear understanding of corporate finance concepts, legal structures, and the types of short-term and long-term financing needs, before introducing participants to the types and concepts of credit facilities. It then dives into credit analysis using financial ratios and cash flow analysis as essential tools for evaluating repayment capacity, reinforced by a practical exercise on a real credit case. Day Two covers two core dimensions: the strategic dimension through evaluating the company's strategic plan, capital structure, and financing options and their impact on the lending decision; and the application dimension through implementing the credit worthiness assessment framework (5 C's), building a credit file, and delivering a credit recommendation. The program concludes with credit monitoring controls, credit transaction oversight, and early warning indicators of credit default.
